WHAT EVER IT TAKES FRIDAY'S
Photos and Words by Aaron Hansen
Teddy King runs things around 143 Roebling. He handles all the customer service issues with the shop. Manages to get your orders out the same day you place them, and he does whatever it takes to make sure you leave Boundless happy.
He is also a ridiculous DJ and has been for years. A true Vinyl Head.

Exhibit D – The Rest of his Propaganda
After some reckless neighborhood yard sales in the past few weeks, that we shut down. Teddy decided to set up a rack in front of Boundless today. Manny stopped by to say whats up. “Whatever it takes TED, Whatever it takes!!!”
The weather won’t be nice forever and who better to get sidewalk traffic into the shop than TEDDY KING.
Just another Friday in Brooklyn, with your boys at Boundless NY.
We are filming a little secret project at the store tomorrow afternoon, if your around you should definitely stop by!!!!

CONGRATS ON 1 YEAR LA SUPERIOR !
One of the best parts of our Williamsburg, Brooklyn neighborhood is the food. So many restaurants, so little time, or should I say money. One of our personal favorites is La Superior and not just because you might find Tes there.
The food is always on point, they have a great staff and their prices are just right. If you haven’t already, grab someone and get a table :

Gothamist just did a Q and A with Iris Avelar and Felipe Mendez for their 1 Year Anniversary. Going beyond the usual questions, they give you a bigger picture behind the faces that have brought La Superior to life.
Gothamist – Under what circumstance have you thought about leaving New York?
Felipe-I haven’t really, I love NYC and not sure when I will escape from here. I believe once you fall in love of NY you never really leave, even if you are living somewhere else you always will think about it and you will always come back.

NO MAS GETS A HAPPY ENDING
Image taken from NY Times
Check out this piece that ran in the NY Times Magazine this weekend about No Mas. And unlike what has happened to other small brands paying homage to their heroes, this actually ends up working out for Mr.Isenberg.

“I’m like a crazy fan who ran on the field,” Chris says, “who somehow got invited into the dugout.”
Moral of this Story – If your on top of your shit and take a proactive approach, things might just end up working out for you…

KS REPRESENTATIVE : AFRA
Written by Tes Uno
Afra and Tes met in the late nineties, through mutual friends, and clicked immediately. Since Afra didn’t have a family in America, Tes and his girlfriend became his American family. During these days Afra did not speak English and Tes did not speak Japanese. Afra learned English pretty well soon enough, but Tes, well lets just say he’s a slow learner.
When Afra arrived in the US he had just begun to make music with his mouth and felt beatboxing was his calling in hip-hop/rap. Since Afra and Tes didn’t understand each other their language was based on motions and charades. Pretty funny exchanges were had on numerous occasions.
One thing they did understand, in a mutual way, was the art of communication through hip-hop and Rap. Soon after they began hitting stages as “Language Arts,” tearing them up, one by one, from the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, to Wetlands(RIP) to Tramps(RIP), SOB’s, NYU University shows and Columbia University shows to name a few.
Although they didn’t speak the same language, or share the same born culture, they connected like magnets through hip-hop.
Afra, Akira Fujioka, originally named his self Afra, cuz he had an Afro and thought it was called an Afra. kind of funny but true. He confessed that he had his hair done into an Afro to connect with African-Americans and hip-hop.
He soon realized that an afro didn’t give hip hop credibility, but he still loved the name Afra and continued to rock with it. His real name Akira is a very popular name in Japan as John is in America.
When Tes met Afra, Tes coined a different meaning for the name Afra. That meaning, which Afra still uses to this day, is “Always Fresh Rhythm Attack!”
The first time anyone saw Afra on stage they were most likely like, what’s this Little nerdy Japanese kid going to do? Boy, the doubters learned their lesson and they learned it quickly!
When ever Afra hit the stage he would transform into this incredible spectacle of mega beats that would bomb the system while lifting everybody to new heights. Talk about a way to start a show, he pretty much stole every show.
What he would do only took ten minutes to complete going in and out straight raw with the best possible intentions hip hop ever dreamt of…

The opening starts this Friday August 7 from 7-10 p.m.
Space 1026
1026 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA.

From 1026 Gallery Press Release: Both Brackbill and Manzer use the camera to capture unguarded moments in the lives of their subjects, be they a friend or a stranger, a bedroom or an unfamiliar landscape.
Shawn Brackbill has made a career of photographing indie culture luminaries, but his portraiture defies the standards of typical “band portraits.” Whether shooting a musician before a performance or models waiting in the wings at a fashion show, the subjects populating the austere environments of his photographs seem to be caught in a cinematic state of suspended animation. Similarly, the mundane settings of Brackbill’s landscapes create a blank canvas that invites the viewer to discover the absurd or the sublime in these commonplace scenes.
